Sustainability : Running a 220-bed facility + shelter + rehab + vocational units +constant recreational programme + games & sports requires significant ongoing funding, which is a constant challenge. Quality of Care : standard quality of care is provided by the institution which is monitored by High Court appointed Honable Judge every month and by DSWO ,DCPO,PO every month visit is compulsory. Awareness : While they do work in education, the demand for mental health services often far outstrips capacity; awareness, early detection, and follow-up care are big challenges in such areas.

Mission • Rehabilitation of the multiple disabled and orphans in the society. • Mental Health service, caring of them and their restoration in the family. • Protection of rights of mentally retarded children and making them aware through proper training and education. • Providing shelter and solace and take care of the orphan disable boys and girls and their rehabilitation. • To arrange for peaceful living of the old aged persons by giving them shelter, care and other services. • To provide treatment of the most dreadful disease like Cancer at the door steps of the rural people. • To develop human resources through various Rehabilitation Courses.

Society for Mental Health Care, Anandaniketan is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization.

Registered in West Bengal under the Societies Registration Act. and the registration number is S/60562 of 1988-1989

Anandaniketan has about 350 beds, It provides residential care for people with mental illness: men and women of any age group and here is a shelter component: around 100 people can stay (lodging + boarding) in the shelter home, and treatment cost is borne by the inmates

Significance in the Region

For Katwa and surrounding areas, Anandaniketan is probably one of the few (or the only) dedicated mental health residential and care centres, making it very important for mental health infrastructure in that district. It plays a dual role: as a care provider and a social development / rehabilitation center. By offering education and vocational training , they help break the cycle where people with mental / intellectual disabilities remain marginalized with no means to reintegrate into society.

History & Founding

The organization was established in 1988 It started in a humble way in the village of Khajurdihi, near Katwa. One key figure is Dr. Haramohan Sinha, described as a philanthropist and social worker.

Dr. Haramohan Sinha as a rural doctor felt that in rural area Mental Health Care arrangement are very poor hence with likeminded person. He started Society for Mental Health Care Anandaniketn in the year 1988. As a matter of fact Anandaniketan started functioning in an abandoned piece of land at the remote end of Khajurdihi village. Dr. Sinha along with his team of volunteers started developing the land by cleaning and planting trees first and then gradually started developing and diversifying the activities of Anandaniketan. Society for Mental Health Care was registered as a Society on 11.01.1989.
